DailyMTG.com Sealed Deck Builder #1

This is one of the coolest things to happen in a while. I went over to DailyMTG.com to look at the Decks of the Weeks. All I wanted to see were some decklists from irl PTQs, but I found this Sealed Deck Builder instead!

Sealed is actually one of my favorite formats, so naturally I gave it a spin. I don’t post here nearly as often as I’d like, but this gives me a good reason to, at least on a weekly basis.

The Sealed Deck Builder can be found here: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/activity/899

All the pools are the same, so build yours first and then come back here. No peeking!

I went a little heavier on black for Undying Evil and Stromkirk Captain too, since you only ever need one of each source excluding crossway, but I’m also greedy too

I also built RGb, most of our best cards are R/G.

    +1 Ulvenwald Mystics
    +1 Spidery Grasp
    +1 Fling
    -1 Ranger’s Guile
    -1 Rakish Heir
-1 Crossway Vampire (I am almost certainly wrong here, whoops)

Most surprising to me is also the Ulvenwald Mystics. Am I being too greedy thinking 7 Forest/Grotto/Amulet for G sources?

    Yeah right.
Put 2 insane RG Rares in the pool and see what people build, rofl. Plus the gang in red and 2 of the flashback removal spells and 2 Briar Elementals. It’s ridiculous.
Impossible to build something else. My decklist differs in like 3 cards just because I don’t want to play 2/1 durdles.

  4. Well, the whole point of the exercise is to perfect those last few cards. Almost never having a two-drop in this format is going to cost you games.

That said, yes, it was hard to build something else.

    Mine differed by 5 cards,
I splashed the blue for think twice, divination and grasp of phantoms. All are 2 for ones and fine at any point in the game.
I think with the grotto and the amulet this is acceptable.

I dropped 2 x mountain, the 2 x RR vampires and the Heir.

I felt that these creatures, whilst subjectively powerful, are not as good as card advantage.
But thinking about it again, maybe the ranger’s guile makes it so that the creatures are just better, protection for slith creatures isn’t exactly bad, nor is having better mana.

    Btw, forgot to add.
Have you heard Kibler momentarily dissing your deck skillz on the car crash that is this video: http://www.twitch.tv/bmkibler/b/306027961

    Very funny.

The fact that he continually screams at the computer, listens to some of the most generic trance music on the planet (and calls it awesome! Which I ironically started to enjoy after the 2nd hour), calls the opponents all sorts of expletive deletives, miss plays like a champ, trolls a few pros, continually leaves the video for a wazz, quits games on people just coz, and then falls asleep at the wheel for 4 hours (mid draft) had me in stitches for the majority of the video.

Could you do something like this at some point?
Both the ‘live’, uncut nature of the video and the drunk/lateness of the recording made for a very insightful video, especially with regards to understanding the deeper thought processes of the professionals, as a lot of truth comes out when people are drunk.
